The ’59 Sound Sessions features a band about to burst.

One look at this image from Gaslight Anthem’s ‘59 Sound Sessions Photobook and you can smell the beer. Sweat in the air. Cramped dance floor. The low suspended ceiling adds to the romance. The thrill of seeing a band about to step up fuelled by

The right and wrongs of Springsteen on Broadway.

The right and wrongs of Springsteen on Broadway.

Springsteen on Broadway is both incredibly brilliant and incredibly overpriced. To see the Boss pour his heart and soul out in the intimate 975 seat Walter Kerr Theatre, it’ll cost you betweeen $850 to $75 a pop. Whenever there is a range like this the

Equal pay for Connie

Equal pay for Connie

So when I came across this Low Cut Connie t-shirt, I couldn’t help but see it as an endorsement of the #metoo movement. A street smart woman, battered but not beaten. Ready to seize the moment of the current political climate and kick some ass.

Sometimes I overthink things.

Low Cut Connie plays uncomplicated beer-soak rock ‘n’ roll. They abide to the school of getting it right over perfect. You’ll find songs about guys and girls making mistakes. Boogie woogie consenting adults can get all hot sweaty to on the dance floor. Besides the band’s latest and most excellent album ‘Dirty Pictures’ (Part 1) came out in May 2017. #metoo dropped in October.

Them’s the facts.

But wait, ‘Dirty Pictures’ (Part 2) is coming out in May 2018. And Weiner is on the cover rockin’ a wife beater. Crap.

A little history. Low Cut Connie got its name from a waitress Weiner knew who wore low cut tops.  Now I’ve never meet the woman, but it wouldn’t be crazy to assume that she’s had a reason to hashtag metoo.

So whether you’re looking to get behind the movement or the band, either way, it’s Connie’s movement. Buy the T. Low Cut Connie is a grossly underrated band that deserves your earbuds.

Signed Ron and Pete Print from Ron Wood’s How Can It Be? Diary

How Can It Be? is a diary kept by Ron Wood in 1965, 10 years before he became a Rolling Stone. Wood has been with the Stones since 1975. Although his contributions started a little earlier with It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll, an album he didn’t make the cover of, but made contributions notably the title track.

What makes How Can It Be? so intriguing is that it is based on the observations of an 18-year-old Wood and not the recollections of an elder statesman of rock. An accomplished painter, Wood also adds illustrations to the story, which were inspired by the musings of his younger self. Continue reading Ron before he was Stoned.

Noisy and Tim Armstrong dropped DIY knowledge

Noisy and Tim Armstrong dropped DIY knowledge

Under the Influence Trailer

Noisy, the music arm of Vice, is launching a new series on homegrown music scenes narrated by Tim Armstrong. This is interesting as Vice has been creating great content ever since it was a DIY magazine in Montreal, Canada. They actually started as a community mag in 1994 as The Voice of Montreal. In the late ’90s, they moved their head offices to NYC and began working on becoming one of the coolest content providers on the net. (They brought us Drunk History gold.)  A small guy done good story, Vice media currently has outlets across the globe. Hipsters true and true we’re betting the only thing more scarce than a clean shave in their offices is a pair of bell bottoms.

All this to say Under the Influence is the perfect story for Vice’s Noisy to tell. And because they know their cool, they’ve got Rancid’s Tim Armstrong to narrate. Armstrong sounds like he’s taken the series title to heart at times. Not since the audio version of Life have we heard someone sound this half in the bag, but once your ear adjusts to the slur, it’s gold. Rock ‘n’ Roll history told by a guy who lived and breathed the dust stirred up in punk rock’s basement.

Gretsch Custom Shop Bayou Round Up Gator Hide Guitar

An alligator hide guitar is a curious beast, but when you’re inspired by the cowhide of a recent Gretsch Custom Round Up, coming up with alligator skin is not that much of a leap. California seals beware, if you come from a state with a strong musical heritage, Gretsch may have their eyes on you.

The Round Up itself has been in the Gretsch stable for years. First produced in 1954 as part of the Duo Jet series, the Round Up was adorned with leather trim and fretboard inlays paying tribute and beckoning Western music. Last year the Gretsch custom shop and Stephan Stern created a version that went all in yeehah covered in cowhide. The leather axe was a comfortable curiosity in the guitar world. At NAMM 15, Gretsch unveiled another Stern creation in the reimagining of the Round Up. It’s a beast born in the swamps of the bayou with a tone perfectly matched for the delta blues.
