Red hot chilli snares
Pearl’s Chad Smith Limited & Chad Smith Free Floater
Chad Smith’s latest collaboration with Pearl has produced a pair of seriously smackworthy signature snares.
To those who know Chad Smith only as Will Farrell’s doppelgänger, or the winner of the 2014 Drum Off with the same. Prepared to be schooled. Smith has provided the off tempo funk for the Red Hot Peppers since 1988. He attributes the funky rhythms he plays as a white boy to time spent with Parliament/Funkadelic percussionist Larry Fratangelo. As a result, Smith is often hit up to bring the rock-funk fusion for other artist including side projects the Bombastic Meatballs and Chickenfoot.
Back to the hardware at hand. The first is the new Chad Smith Limited snare, which is described as a drum for any occasion. It’s basically a facelift of Chad’s steel shell snare with a tasty Candy Apple Red lacquered finish. It’ll run ya, $469. Quite reasonable.
The second is more. The Chad Smith Free-Floater snare has three interchangeable 3mm cast rings housed in Pearl’s Free Floating snare. Basically this’ll offer you a range of tonal combinations. The Chad Smith Free-Floater will cost you around $959. For the full story click.
