John Lennon’s 1963 Gretsch 6120

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has been spending a lot of money on guitars lately. Most recently in the news there’s the $530,000 he dropped on the 1963 John Lennon Gretsch guitar. Lennon famously used the 6120 to record Paperback Writer. Not long after the cheque cleared on that deal Irsay picked up the Les Paul Black Beauty for $275,000. Buddy must have one really understanding wife. I mean you could underplay the significance of the Black Beauty. Let’s face it only aficionado’s had heard about it before the auction. But Lennon’s Gretsch. What are you gonna say? You borrowed it off of Yoko. Continue reading Jim Irsay’s guitar budget is bigger than yours.

New Balance 1400 Connoisseur Guitar

Pimped out with colorways inspired by the gloss of american electric guitars, the New Balance Connoisseur Guitar Pack is for the sneaker head and the guitar geek alike. The chosen hue of the pigskin suede on the New Balance 1400 Connoisseur Guitar is inspired by the burnt yellow of a classic American electric. The New Balance description doesn’t attribute a specific guitar to the shoes, which might have to do with licensing agreements. Let’s just say that these sweet sneaks would look great the next time you strap on a ’52 Fender Telecaster.

To add to the collection temptation, the 1400 Connoisseur Guitar comes with a custom New Balance guitar pick, no word on the thickness.

Lou Reed Transformer by Mick Rock

When you think of Lou Reed a number of images come to mind. Many of them iconic rock ‘n’ roll. From the Velvet Underground Andy Warhol banana to Lou puckering up from captain androgynous David Bowie. And then there’s the cover of Transformer. The album produced by David Bowie, launched Lou in the mainstream. Lou’s brilliant writer’s rock would wonder in and out of the mainstream for decades.

This limited edition Mick Rock Transformer photo can be found at Snap Galleries. Continue reading A picture can transform a thousand words.

Jane likes to be touched.

Jane likes to be touched.

Guitars have always been about touch. While some would add swinging and smashing to the ground, Pete Townsend, touch takes precedence. Switzerland’s Relish Guitars latest offering takes the idea of touch to the next level. The Jane is the first electric guitar that allows you to switch pick-ups with a tap of a finger. No switches to toggle.

The Jane’s innovative design is highlighted with a 3-way pick-up switch activated by touch sensors. Located in the body, the touch sensors allow you to mute the volume along with switch between Humbuckers. Continue reading Jane likes to be touched.

Pretty Green Deansgate Parka

If you were a Mod back in the 1960s there was a good chance that you wore a parka. Green. With a Who logo sewed on. And you listened to Louie Louie by the Kingsmen on repeat. And repeat in the 60s was manual, you had to pick the needle up yourself and start over. We’re talking commitment. To hear Jurassic Steve (Original Mod) tell it, the parka was about utility more than fashion. Jurassic’s take on the jacket and the culture can be found on Mod & Rockers a short film on PrettyGreen.com. It’s part of the roll out of Pretty Green’s March of the Mods Collection.

Liam Gallagher’s fashion line has strong rock ‘n’ roll DNA. Perhaps never more than this season. The Deansgate Parka is part of a line inspired by the summer of ‘64 and the flash point when Mods and Rockers rioted on the beaches of Margate and Brighton, England. Nonpartisan, you can find style inspired by both side of the clash. You can even vote for the side you identify with most. Diabolical long hairs or hairdryer-riding pansies. Although they put it a little differently.
