Bringing back the 80s at NAMM 15
Yamaha DX7
With the success of Future Islands and the presence of keyboards on the latest Spoon release, 80’s synth was a major influence on 2014’s coolest releases. Any doubts of the resurgence of the 80s sound, check out the title of Ms. Swift’s latest release.
Starting tomorrow at Winter NAMM 2015, Yamaha will be celebrating 40 years of crafting synthisizers with a display of vintage models including one of the most popular syths ever the DX7. Dropped on the planet in 1983, it was a synthesizer with an entirely new non-analog sound thanks to frequency modulation or FM. More popular than the mullet, the DX7 was the instrument most responsible for that 80s sound. The DX7 gave a unique feel to 80s era U2, Talking Heads and Depeche Mode. Not to mention Phil Collins and his weekly chart toppers.
