Martin D-35 Brazilian 50th Anniversary Limited Edition
Martin is celebrating the b-day of one of its most successful models with the D-35 Brazilian 50th Anniversary Limited Edition.
Over the years the D-35’s warm bass tones has provided accompaniment for folk singers and rockers alike including Elvis, Johnny Cash and Bruce Springsteen. Remarkable when you know that it was a guitar built out of necessity as much as imagination. 50 years ago Martin needed to do something with the leftover rosewood from the D-28. The leftover pieces had small defects and were starting to take up more space than Paul Simon’s ego. They could have simply thrown them away, like Paul done did with Art, but someone at Martin had a better idea. They decided to create a 3-piece back with what was essentially scraps. The sweet surprise was that by inserting a third piece between 2 twin pieces, it gave the acoustic a sweet one-of-a-kind behind.
The D-35 Brazilian 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is a beautiful tribute. Built of Madagascar rosewood with a Brazilian rosewood back centre plate and head plate, there are only 100 available and Martin has stated that they were all accounted for by dealers at NAMM 15. Not the cheapest of the birthday axes, it is listed at $6,999. To find out which dealers has them head to martin.com
