Blur gets animated
Travel to Hong Kong with Blur Comic Book
When Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz dropped onto the world in 1998 music loving comic geeks peed themselves with joy. Admit it, your drawers got a little wet when your eyeballs caught sight of the world’s first virtual band. Now Albarn is giving a bit of the same treatment to his real life band turning Blur into comic book heroes.
Billed as a complement to the band’s new release Magic Whip, Travel To Hong Kong with Blur carries on the themes of the album. We did a bit about the album cover a while back. Recorded in Hong Kong when a gig was cancelled, the band headed into the studio and banged out some tunes inspired by the city.
For its Blur comic book the band reached out to Hong Kong artist KongKee. The story finds the band on a traditional Manhua, futuristic adventure. Sure to become a collector’s item the number of books are limited with the first batch hidden in cities the band will be visiting on their Magic Whip Tour. Hints to the location of the hidden comics are being released @blurofficial. Fans will also be able to pick up a copy at the shows.
It’s all geektastic. The only thing that could be better is a second comic that sees the members of Blur and Gorillaz joining forces to save the world from ever having to hear Gangam Style again. Just thinking about it has made you wet your pants hasn’t it?
