Warhol cover to cover
I am going to go out on a banana tree limb here and say that no other album artist comes close to the epicness of Andy Warhol. The covers you know are The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers and The Velvet Underground and Nico. Both bulging with phallus these covers were produced 4 years apart, which is a long time between boners, but no one can accuse Warhol of sitting around with his dick in his hand. His album cover work was prolific and diverse as can be seen in Andy Warhol: The Complete Commissioned Record Covers. The 12” x 12” expanded edition features over 50 works from the artist from 1949 to 1987.
Before becoming famous with Campbell’s and Marilyn, Warhol earned a living as a graphic artist creating illustrations for magazines and album art. After fame set in, he continued to work in both mediums. The book includes early album art work for jazz musicians like Thelonious Monk to covers for Count Basie, Diana Ross, and John Lennon.
