A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL WITNESS
David Redfern photo of a young McCartney
Famed music photographer David Redfern died of cancer at the age of 78 on October 23, 2014. He had been battling the disease for 2 years.
Most notably known as a jazz photographer, Redfern began his career in the 60s becoming a regular at London jazz clubs and festivals. It being the 60s, he was also around to witness the birth of acts that were appealing to a younger generation. Thanks to David, we have looks at the Beatles before the mania set in. The photographer would cover the jazz scene at night and TV shows during the day. Shows like Ready, Steady, Go recorded while the sun was still up featuring the hot music acts of the day.
A life dedicated to capturing musicians on stage, Redfern’s portfolio leaves behind an incredible body of work featuring rock royalty as they were teething on stardom. For a great look at the man and his work check out The Unclosed Eye-The Music Photography of David Redfern.
