U2 Songs of Innocence: Trouble

Trouble by Todd James

U2 have just released 12 films created by urban artists inspired by tracks off Songs of Innocence. The artists involved are Robin Rhode, Maser, D*Face, DALeast, Maser, Chloe Early, Todd James, Mode 2, Ganzeer, ROA, Oliver Jeffers and Vhils.

Now when you’re a band as big as U2 every move you make is met with a certain amount of cynicism. Just ask the people who had to suffer the first world horror of having a free album appear in their iTunes library. The latest move by the Irish monolith is sure to have it’s share of detractors. Released on the same day as tickets go on sale for their upcoming tour, this could easily be scene as a move to gain the band hipster street cred. But at the end of the day, U2 has an enormous audience and if a handful of them get turned onto an artist like Todd James that’s pretty cool.

After tomorrow the series will be available from iTunes and amazon. But don’t worry hayers, they won’t be free.

Crazy compact cocktail-jamTAMA Cocktail-Jam Kit

From the country that brought you the capsule hotel comes this compact curiousity. What you are looking at is Japanese drum manufacturer TAMA’s Cocktail-Jam Kit. Now cocktail drum kits have been around a long time, sproting up as the big band era came to an end and smaller quartets took their place. More often, they are sets that you play standing up, the joke being the drummer forgot his throne. Probably started by some smartass lead guitarist.

The TAMA Cocktail-Jam kit allows the player to sit. Which, if you’ve ever tried to play the drums standing, is a major plus. We’re thinking this could make a great starter or a travel kit if you just can’t leave home without your skins. The company website describes it as a kit ideal for intimate settings or tight rehersal rooms. When we think of some of the tiny bars we’ve seen bands squeezed in to, this kit makes sense. Just don’t expect a big sound from the compact toms. The snare on the other hand, holds it own. Continue reading TAMA’S LITTLE ROCK ‘N’ ROLLER

Joe Perry ROCKS

Rocks: My life in and out of Aerosmith

There’s been a lot of ink spilted about Aerosmith. Much of it by it’s own members. Joe Perry, with his Rocks: My life in and out of Aerosmith, is the third member of the band to tell their story. First up was Drummer Joey Krammer, then came Tyler’s version of events. Poor Joe had to bite his tongue for a while. Rocks offers the story from the co-founder of one of the biggest rock bands America has ever produced. Continue reading AEROSMITH ACCORDING TO JOE
