NEW CLASH T CALLING

New Clash Red Banner T

Head over to theClash.com and you’ll find some sweet new Ts. The above repurposes the cover of London Calling. The double album was voted one of the best of the 80s by Rolling Stone magazine. When Joe Strummer heard the news his reaction was, ‘But it was released in 1979.’

The cover of London Calling is a riff on one of rocks earliest albums, Elvis Presley’s self-titled debut. The new t-shirt drops the Elvis reference and simply features the brutally epic photo of Clash bassist Paul Simonon taking down his guitar. As the story goes, Simonon wasn’t happy with the sound of his instrument that night and slammed it down in front of touring photographer Pennie Smith. She was lucky to catch the shot, although he advanced on her so quickly that the shot is slightly out of focus. Like great punk rock, it’s the honest imperfections that make it beautiful.
