ONE LUCKY DRUM KIT

Moon kit set for auction at Bonhams

Keith Moon Ludwig Super Classic ’64 Drum Kit

This 1964 Keith Moon drum kit is in remarkably good condition considering the Who drummer’s notoriety for being a wild man. You know the cliché about rock stars trashing hotels and throwing TVs out the window? Well Keith kinda set the template for all who would follow. And then there’s the Who’s history of giving their equipment a beat down at the end of performances. Keith not only beat his drums. He kicked them over. This set is said to be one of the drummer’s first and, from the looks of it, it got off pretty easy.

Keith Moon’s Ludwig Super Classic set will be auctioned off along with items from The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Nivana, and The Beatles at Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia Sale Dec 10.

It’s actually kinda of funny to be referring to Keith Moon in the same breath as a place like Bonhams. The privately own British auction house describes itself as one of the oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques. I hope I die before I get old indeed.

Many of the items up for grabs…excuse us…up for auction are from the Punk era. Most notable is a 10.5 x 4.5 meter (307′ x 158′) piece that the Clash created as a back drop during their 1981 Radio Clash tour. The band had then pioneering artist Futura 200 spray paint the large backdrop. Now it can be yours for a mere 25 to 30,000 pounds.

Moon’s set, the center-piece of the event, is estimated at 15,000 to 20,000 pounds. We’re assuming cymbals are not included.

Check it.
